School boycotters face prosecution

22 September 2010

Diyarbakir Chief Prosecutor Office launched an investigation against boycotters.

While the school boycott campaign started by Kurdish Linguistic Rights Movement (TZP- Kurdi) for mother tongue education receives great support across Kurdistan, Diyarbakir Chief Prosecutor Office launched an investigation against boycotters.

Diyarbakir Chief Prosecutor Office launched an investigation against boycotters on account of “preventing the right to education, inciting committing crime and acting on behalf of an outlawed organisation, without being a member.”

It is reported that the Public Prosecutor Office corresponded Head of Security Directorate in order to find out the number of the students who boycotted the schools. Prosecutor Office also started an investigation against TZP-Kurdi and Kurdish Language Association Kurdi-Der.

Prosecutor Office further asked the security directorate to determine whether school administrations and school-bus companies joined the boycott. It is also reported that the investigation can be extended to include the parents.

Meanwhile, Ministry of National Education ordered school administrations to prepare the list of students, including house addresses, who registered schools between 20-24 September.
