Iranian court sentences Kurdish artist to 16-year imprisonment

An Iranian Court sentenced a Kurdish artist called Mukhtar Hushmend to 16-year imprisonment.

The Iranian Revolutionary Court in Meriwan city sentenced a Kurdish artist called Mukhtar Hushmend to 16-year imprisonment.

It is reported that the Kurdish artist Mukhtar Hushmend was given 16 year imprisonment on account of "disseminating anti-regime propaganda". Hushmend has been in custody since February last year when he was arrested in Meriwan.

Hushmend was the head of Union of Painters in Meriwan and was known for his work on Kurdish identity. He has also facilitated several exhibitions in Eastern Kurdistan.
