Peace Mothers vigil in Istanbul

17 September 2010

Mothers ask the government to answer to the PKK ceasefire with a positive step

The Peace Mothers Initiative will have a 24 hours peace vigil today in İstanbul Taksim Square to send a message to the AKP (Justice and Development Party) government that has still not responded to the ceasefire of KCK (Kurdish Democratic Confederation).

With a few days left to the end of KCK’s ceasefire the Peace Mothers Initiative, formed by people who lost their children and relatives in clashes, will be keeping a Peace Vigil in Taksim Square to call once again to the AKP Government that has not taken any steps for a peaceful and democratic solution of the Kurdish problem.

During the vigil, which is going to start at 14:00 today and will last 24 hours, the mothers will list their demands.

Besides supporting the action by the Peace Mothers, İHD (Human Rights Association) İstanbul Branch will organize a Peace March with the Peace Mothers on 18 September at 13.00 from Taksim Tramway Station towards Galatasaray Square.
