Trade between the autonomous Kurdish region of Iraq and Turkey has doubled in the last three years

Trade between the autonomous Kurdish region of Iraq and Turkey has doubled in the last three years, official statistics released on Saturday showed.

Tamar Ramadan, the governor of Dohuk, the province that borders Turkey, reported that the value of trade has reached 6 billion dollars annually, up from 3 billion dollars in 2007.

Ramadan said he expects that number to hit 11 billion dollars next year.

Dohuk, some 460 kilometres north of Baghdad, has a large border with Turkey and serves as a gateway to the neighbouring country.
