Polling stations closed in Turkey

In many Kurdish cities the majority of the people choose to boycott the referendum

Ballots closed in Kurdish cities in constitutional referendum. Preliminary results are expected after 18:00.

Ballots in 32 cities closed after 16:00 including Kurdish cities. Tension was high in Kurdish populated areas. Turkish police detained 181 during the voting process.

27 were detained only in Van while 21 detained in Batman, 11 detained in Hakkari and 6 in Diyarbakir.

Also most of the shops remained closed in Diyarbakır, Mardin, Şırnak, Siirt, Batman, Urfa, Bingöl, Hakkari, Van and Agri. Streets were mostly empty as well as ballot stations.

Most voters did not vote in today's constitutional referendum in Kurdish cities. Expectations are high about the success of boycott campaing led by the Peace and Democracy Party.
