KESK asked release of Kurdish politicians and activists

17 October 2010

KESK General President Sami Evren asked release of Kurdish politicians and activists

Underlining that the massive arrests intended at political party and mass organization representatives are worrisome, KESK General President Sami Evren said; “Necessary precautions must urgently be taken for the start of the democratic process and the detainees must be released.”

In his written statement, Evren remarked that they are anxious about the waste of the achieved historical ground and possibilities for the solution of main problems, particularly the Kurdish problem.

Reminding that there have been massive arrests aimed at political party and mass organization representatives including union members and administrators, Evren said the followings;

“Even though the arrests are considered as a part of the judicial process, it is obvious that they won’t be handled separately from the political atmosphere and state politics.

Such arrests are worrisome and contradiction in a process when almost all state institutions predominantly agree that the Kurdish problem should be solved without violence and through political ways.

In this respect, tomorrow’s trial in Diyarbakır 6th High Criminal Court has a critical importance and content. Necessary precautions must urgently be taken for the start of the democratic process and the detainees must be released.”
