Mayor of Diyarbakir was accused of financing youth who would join the PKK

A Turkish court acquitted Mayor of Diyarbakir Osman Baydemir from accusations based on slanders set by the Turkish police.

He was accused of providing financial assistance to a 16-year old who was preparing to join the PKK.

Diyarbakir 4th High Criminal Court heard the case today and decided acquittal of Baydemir.

Baydemir told the court that he doesn't know the person who is said to received money from him.

The teenager named B.K. also testified before court and said Turkish police forced him to say that he received financial support from Baydemir.

He said that Turkish police assured him that if he testifies against Baydemir he will get lower prison sentence.

The judges unanimously decided acquittal of Baydemir from the charges of supporting a terrorist organization.
