The six clapped their hands at a song praising Kurdish guerrillas
Eight Kurds were sentenced to six years and eight months in prison for clapping hands while a song praising guerrillas were playing.
Diyarbakir 4th High Criminal Court ruled that the defendants showed support to the Kurdistan Workers Party by clapping hands while a song praising guerrillas were playing on the background.
The defendants including former mayor of Besiri, a district of Batman province was sentenced to a total of six years and eight months in prison.
The lawyers of Kurds filed an appeal to the Turkish High Court saying that the defendants were not responsible for the song playing in the meeting.
The High Court will hear the case on spring of 2011.
