The Kurdish Democratic Union Party - Yekiti, has announced the death of its leader Ismail Omar, who passed away after he had a heart attack on Monday 18 October 2010. His funeral was held today.
He was born in 1947, and had a family of three sons and a daughter. He joined the Kurdish Democratic Party in 1963, but was also a university student and then a teacher until 1988 when he stopped so that he could give his time to political activity. He was elected to the Politburo at the Third Conference of the Party, and then became Secretary of the General Committee. In 2001 he took the position of the President of the Party which he held until his death.
