Fawaz Haddad is released in Syria

August 1, 2010 by sks

Fawaz Mohi al-Din Hassan known as (Fawaz Haddad) from the town of Amuda in Hassaka province was released from al-Musalamiya  Prison in Aleppo after the expiry of his sentence. The Court of Military Crime in Aleppo had sentenced him on 15 June 2010 for a year and three months (including time spent in detention pre-sentence) for the crime of belonging to a banned political organization, under the provisions of Article 267 of the Syrian Penal Code.
Syrian Committee for Human Rights – MAD welcome Fawaz Haddad’s release. We demand the release of political prisoners, the lifting of martial law and its use against dozens of supporters of Democratic Union Party – PYD.  Some PYD supporters have been held in cellars of the security divisions without having been brought to trial for more than two years. We demand also the abolition of the State of Emergency,  and the abolition of special courts, and that persecution of political activists stops..
