Unions debating Democratic Autonomy proposal
Democratic Autonomy is an opportunity for the solution of the Kurdish problem and democratisation of Turkey, said Izzettin Alpergin, General Secretary of Municipal Workers’ Trade Union (Tüm Bel-Sen) of the Confederation of the Public Workers’s Unions (KESK).
The Democratic Autonomy is being debated in various circles.
Alpergin also said that while they are supporting free, democratic and transparent local administrations they also consider multicultural and multi-identity society as richness. He also said a good infrastructure and cheap and sustainable services should be provided with everyone without discrimination. “Local administrations like municipalities should not be seen as companies but institutions serving the public. Therefore, public interest should be given priority.” added Alpergin.
Alpergin further stated that Democratic Autonomy will not only serve the democratic solution of the Kurdish problem and other ethnic problems it will also realise European Charter of Local self-governance which will give more capacity and competence to the local authorities which will eventually let the people to actively take part in decision making procedure.
