Erbil – “Armenians in Kurdistan” is a new movie about the Armenian genocide in 1915 during the rule of Ottoman Sultan Abdul-Hamid II.
During that time some of the Armenians escaped to Kurdistan and settled in some villages near Zakho, a town on the current border of Turkey and Iraq.
This film is being produced by a Kurdish film maker Ranjdar Rizgar in cooperation with cooperation of a Kurdish group for making films.
The film story is about the relations between Armenians and Kurds. It also talks about the Kurds attitude towards Armenian nation in Kurdistan. In the past several Kurdish leaders apologized for the Kurdish participation in the Armenian genocide.
The movie also talks about religion, language and social traditions of Armenians in Kurdistan. The Armenians achieved one seat of Kurdish parliament in recent elections (Photo: kurdisharmenian.blogspot.com).
