07-12-2009

Erbil - The Democratic Party of Kurdistan-Iran has ties with America. The KDP-I leader also said it’s movement has spoken with the Israeli leader Ehud Barak.

Khalid Azizi emphasized that the KDP-I doesn’t have ties with Israel. “But I don’t see any reasons why Israel or the Jews should be shown as the enemies of the Kurdish people.” During a recent conference of the Labour party in the United Kingdom, Azizi spoke with the leader of the Israeli Labour party and ex-premier Ehud Barak.

The American contacts of the KDP-I about the Kurdish issue in Iran are in the Senate and the House of Representatives, but also the State Department. “We also try to update advisors of the White House about the developments.”

Azizi also told Rudaw that the KDP-I is ready to participate in a democratic peace process, if Iran offers this. But he said he doesn’t believe Iran is ready to give the Kurds autonomy or federalism.
