Kirkuk - Arabs and Turkmen complain in Kirkuk about the number of jobs allocated to Kurds, but it seems Arabs get more government jobs, than Kurds.
Thousands of imported Arabs were appointed in the administrative posts, but the Iraqi government doesn’t allow deported Kurds of the Baath regime, to return back and get a job in the government.
The population of Kirkuk is around 1.400.000 citizens. 56% of them are Kurds, but only 5% of the government jobs are given to Kurds. According to a study, Kirkuk has 65.136 government employees, of which 50.31% are Arabs, 25.12% are Turkmen, 23.41% are Kurds and 1.43% are Christians.
Member of the governorate council Ahmad Askari says they tried to give Kurds more jobs, “because Kurds have majority in this city”.
Muhammad Khalil, an Arab member of Kirkuk’s governorate council says the high number of Arabic employees, is that because Arab have higher degrees. They requested for jobs and were employed by the local authorities (Photo: Rudaw).
