Ziya Aktaş, released recently from Kırıklar prison, stated that it was similar to the Diyarbakır prison of the 80s. Aktaş said that since the arrival of the new director Ayhan Çapacı two months ago, new forms of torture had been developed. The new director has been making announcements saying ‘I will turn all of you into real men.’
According to Aktaş statements some of the practises in the prison are as follows: The new director has begun a practise called the ‘sponged room.’ Prisoners are being taken into these rooms and getting tortured. Torture doesn’t just consist of this room. A new team called ‘the torture group’ has been formed in the prison and the real physical attacks are being carried out by this group.
There has been no success in getting justice despite all these practises says Aktaş. The medical examinations and behaviour of doctors consummates these inhumane practises he adds.
Aktaş, whose brother is Misbah Aktaş is still in Kırıklar prison, emphasises that no one in the prison has life security and points out that 10 prisoners have begun an indefinite hunger strike to protest the suppression and inhumane practises.
