DTP wants original Kurdish city names back
Batman - The pro-Kurdish Democratic Society Party (DTP) says it not only wants to change the name Tunceli back to its original name Dersim, but also cities like Amed (Diyarbakir), Riha (Urfa) and Elih (Batman) reports ANF.

The DTP announced this in Urfa during a campaign for women rights. Kurdish mps from Diyarbakir, Urfa and Batman announced that the biggest Kurdish cities should get their original names back.

According to a DTP representative there is a ‘positive wind’ to change the names back. “The population asks us to return the old names back of these cities. They want to go on the streets and collect signatures. The Turkish government should give a clear stance towards the will of the people.”

Last Thursday, the Turkish Interior Minister Atalay told reporters in Moscow that he thinks the city names shouldn’t be changed, only if in a referendum the local inhabitants would vote for changing the names (Photo: Kurdistan-post.com).
