Mr. Gür is the founder and former member of the Human Rights Association (HRA) in the province of Van, Turkey. He also served as the Secretary General of the HRA between 1997 and 2001. Together with his human rights activist colleagues, Mr. Gür struggled against the violations of basic human rights; in particular, the burning down and evacuation of Kurdish villages, torture, extra-judicial executions, disappearances, food embargo, forced internal displacement and arbitrary detentions in the Kurdish region of South East Turkey. Mr. Gür is currently the representative of Democratic Society Party (DTP) of Turkey in Washington, DC, USA.
