Kurdish Americans help Kurds from Turkey

06-11-2009

Washington - Members of the Kurdish American Youth Organization (KAYO) have achieved their goal with their recent fundraising efforts with Gift of Hope Overseas. Medical help will now sent to the Kurdish city of Dogubeyazit.

According to Kayo, the children and women of the Dogubeyazit area suffer many health-related complications due to the lack of immediate medical attention. “These mobile labs will now be sent to physicians and nurses of the Dogubeyazit area and its environs to enable them to conduct routine medical examinations onsite in the most rural areas,” the organization declared in a press release.

KAYO national advisor Aryan Akreyi told Rudaw that the organization has raised $6,000 for the Kurds in Turkey. “This is the second fundraising event of this kind that KAYO has done. The previous one was done back in early 2007 during the flooding in Northern Kurdistan [southeast Turkey].”

KAYO is an independent and non-profit organization dedicated to promoting interest and awareness of the Kurdish cause, heritage and culture in societies and communities throughout North America (Photo: kurdyouth.org).
