Kurdish Info 06.10.2009- While the incident which resulted in the death of 13 year old Ceylan is still in the public domain, a similar incident took place in Dersim. Rockets were launched from an Army station towards the vicinity of a herd of animals in the village of Ibimahmut in the city of Dersim.As a result of the attack from the Atacinar gendarmerie station many animals died of which 4 were bovine animals and many animals were injured. After the incident the herdsman Niyazi Sahin was brought to the gendarmerie station.The Commander of the station wanted to sweep everything under the carpet by telling Niyazi Sahin not to inform the media and that the incident will be taken care of by them.
The villagers who make a sole living from farming protested by asking “is this how cheap our lives are”?
Niyazi Sahin’s sister Gulgun Sahin said that when she arrived at the location of the incident, which is two kilometers from the gendarmerie station, she saw her brother lying down unconscious.
She said “there could have been people here, tomorrow they will launch rockets over our houses too, is this humanity? This area is not a mountainous area and is easily viewed from the station. They did it on purpose.”
