Kurdish Info 05.10.2009- The ruling AK Party has carried out its third congress. A pamphlet on the democratic development process was read at the congress at which Tayyip Erdogan was reelected as the party leader. It was understood from the pamphlet that it was not worth the paper it was written on. No practical steps were laid out, and the Kurdish Question was once again defined as a ‘terror’ question.
The report which was read during the congress was prepared by the home secretary Besir Atalay, AKP’s parliamentary group leader Bekir Bozdag and Member of Parliament of Adana Omer Celik. In the report it was claimed that the democratic development process was initiated to strengthen national unity, to uphold a unitary state and to strengthen the democratic republic. What started out to be called the Kurdish opening then became the democratic opening and is now being called the project for national unity.
The report claimed that the ‘project for national unity would remove terrorism from being a threat to the public and the state’. A few clues were given on how the problem would be tackled but no practical steps were put forward. A commission was also formed for the process. The members of the commission are Besir Atalay, Bekir Bozdag and Omer Celik.
