Erbil - Three women and a child died in floods that hit Southern Kurdistan, Kurdish officials told AFP on Sunday. Also across the border in the Kurdish provinces of Turkey, around four children were killed because of the bad weather.
Severe rainstorms in the area surrounding the town of Mergasur, near the Iraq-Turkey border, caused the Upper Zaab river to overflow, delivering massive damage to roads and bridges and leaving several paths blocked off because of landslides.
The Kurdish Governor Nawzad Hadi told AFP that today a committee will evaluate the losses. He also declared a state of emergency for regions that were suffered from the storms and landslides.
Also in the Kurdish regions of Turkey several people were killed by the flood and bad weather. One student died in the Eruh district of the province of Siirt. Three other children lost their lives in Mardin (Photo: dunyabulteni.net).
