New Kurdish faction leader chosen in Turkey

Ankara – Mehmet Nuri Yaman is the new parliamentary group leader of the Kurdish Peace and Democracy Party (BDP) in Turkey reports CNN Türk.

Yaman succeeds the Ahmet Türk, who lead the banned Democratic Society Party. This was decided on Monday in a meeting of the BDP. The vicechairmen of the BDP will be Selahattin Demirtas and Gulten Kisanak.

On 1 February the BDP will decide who will be the new leader of the party. Currently Demir Çelik is the leader. Until the congress Mehmet Nuri Yaman will lead the BDP in the parliament.

Mehmet Nuri Yaman (65) is a relatively unknown DTP-member and is from Mus. He earned a degree in Public Administration at the University of Ankara and worked as an official in different positions, including in the ministry of Interior Affairs (Photo: haberdiyarbakir.com).
