Turkish police have arrested 60 people in simultaneous operations across four provinces. The detained prisoners were suspected of cooperating with the outlawed Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK).
According to Anatolia news agency, anti-terror police rounded up the suspects in raids on their homes and offices in Istanbul, Batman, Diyarbakir, Van and the eastern city of Igdir.
The most high-profile person to be arrested was the mayor of Igdir, Mehmet Nuri Gunes (pictured above) of the Peace and Democracy Party (BDP), the newspaper Radikalreported. He was arrested along with eight other members of the now-defunct Democratic Society Party (DTP).
The arrests follow an operation in urban centers during December, when 31 people were arrested in 11 provinces over links to PKK and its off-shoots.
