"As all democratic roads are being shut for the Kurds of Turkey the Kurdish people will be looking to the PKK to continue their struggle for basic human and political rights."
Are you aware that Kurds are being collectively arrested?
As we talk about the horrors of the Sledgehammer coup plan and demand that action be taken against it, the politicians from the former Democratic Society Party (DTP) and from the new Peace and Democratic Society Party (BDP) are being arrested one after another. Some say the total number of arrests has surpassed 1,000.
Have you ever thought about what arresting more than 1,000 mayors, provincial or district organization heads and other executives from a single party means? Many mayors who are now in prison have received the support of more than 60 percent of their respective constituencies. What is going on is not nothing -- it is the mass arrest of the people’s representatives. A system that construes law for its own purposes and completely ignores the popular will is still in place in the areas with a dominantly Kurdish population. Police operations, detentions and arrests continue incessantly in the East. Apparently, certain people want to provoke the Kurds once again to revolt, which is the first option that comes to mind. If you completely suppress the legitimate spheres and if you send the Kurds operating in the legal sphere to jail, then you must also take into consideration the reaction this might elicit from Kurds.
