Iraqi President Jalal Talabani, a Kurd, says he is very optimistic about solving the Kurdish issue in Turkey.

A delegation of Turkey's pro-Kurdish Democratic Society Party, headed by the party's leader, Ahmed Turk, arrived in Suleimaniya city, Iraqi Kurdistan Region, on September 15 with the aim of consulting with Kurdish leaders in Iraqi Kurdistan concerning solving Kurdish issues in Turkey.

"Turkey should make concrete and more efforts to solve the Kurdish issue," said Turk, head of the Democratic Society Party in a press conference at Suleimaniya airport as he arrived.

Turk said Turkey should give more rights to its Kurds; he pointed out that solving the Kurdish issue cannot be solved only by "statements and words."

He explained his visit to Iraqi Kurdistan by saying, "I am here in order to consult with my brothers regarding the Kurdish issue in Turkey."

The delegation met President Jalal Talabani in Suleimaniya city. It has been decided that the delegation will also meet Kurdistan Region President Massoud Barzani.

Turk was accompanied by DTP co-chairwoman Emine Ayna and deputies Sebahat Tuncel, Hatip Dicle, and Sevahir Bayındır, in addition to Diyarbakır Mayor Osman Baydemir.
