According to MAD Human Rights Committee in Syria, the political security forces arrested three Kurdish people in Qamishli in mid-November, for the second time:
- Rezan Nur al-Din Ibrahim, born 1979 in Hillaliya area of Qamishli;
- Saud Abdulkader Ibrahim, born 1975 in Hillaliya area of Qamishli;
- Mohammed Ezadin al-Ahmed, born 1982 in Em al-Kahef village near Qamishli.
These people were first arrested on October 2008, and were sentenced by the judge of the Individual Military Court as follows on charges of belonging to banned political organisation – the Democratic Union Party [PYD] – and inciting sectarian strife:
Rezan al-Din Ibrahim for three months in prison; Saud Abdulkader Ibrahim and Mohammed Ezadin al-Ahmed each for six months.
There is currently no information about the whereabouts of these three people, or information about why they were arrested at this time.
International Support Kurds in Syria Association – SKS condemns these arrests and arbitrary detention of people who have a political view, and the State of Emergency that is used to legitimise this action by the authorities. The international community needs to take note of the frequent reports of these arrests of Kurds in Syria and understand that the situation for Kurds is worsening whilst other countries are building on their links with Syria. We ask if negotiations are taking place to protect Kurds, as well as to bring advantage to others.
