Three Kurdish guerrillas lose their lives in Eruh

Press release by HPG regarding Eruh ambush

Regarding the ambush on security directorate and some military bases in Eruh district of Siirt of 2 August 2010 People’s Defence Forces (HPG) issued a press release. In the release it is stated that while Turkish security forces hide their casualties 3 Kurdish fighters including one women guerrilla lost their lives. “Our three comrades reached martyrdom by fighting like heroes and sacrificing their lives.” HPG added.

According to the statement the Kurdish guerrillas seized 2 vehicles which they stopped on their way to Eruh town centre. These vehicles were later used in the attacks against governmental buildings in Eruh. It is stated that the governor’s office, the security directorate and some other military bases and their lodges were targeted in the attack after which clashes started between the Turkish security forces and the Kurdish guerrillas. The clashes continued until 01:00 on 3 August.

HPG also stated that Turkish army removed their casualties with helicopters so that they could hide the number of casualties from public.

It is also reported that 3 Kurdish guerrillas including one female fighter lost their lives in the clashes that broke out following the ambush on governmental buildings.

Eruh district of Siirt is where 24 years ago on 15 August 1984 the Kurdish national independence movement led by the Kurdistan Worker’s Party (PKK) fired the first bullet against the Turkish forced.
