Kurdish opposition leader publishes ‘secret’ diaries

01-12-2009

Slemani – As a reaction to the accusations of the Iraqi president and PUK-leader Jalal Talabani, the Kurdish opposition leader Nawshirwan Mustafa has published documents of his relations with the president between 1999 and 2001 on Sbeiy.com last week.

The publications contain seven parts focusing on the attempts of the Change list (Gorran) leader to reform the PUK in the past, the media organizations, the political visits of the Iraqi president, the installation of the new Kurdish prime minister and other internal ‘secrets’.

The Change list leader, who used to be a senior leader in PUK, says he wants to show that he has tried to reform the PUK, before leaving it. Opponents accused him of doing nothing against things like corruption, when he was still one of the highest PUK-officials.

Nawshirwan Mustafa says that he has several times complained towards the leader of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) Jalal Talabani, but that Talabani refused to listen to his complaints. To prove his points, the opposition leader published letters he sent to Talabani on the website Sbeiy.com. He also refers to the books he has published over the years about his history in Kurdish party politics.

The Change List is considered as the biggest Kurdish opposition party with 25 seats in the Kurdish parliament of the federal Kurdistan region of Iraq. The list says it wants to combat corruption and mismanagement. Most of its members are former PUK-members.
