The individual military judge in Qamishli has set a date for the trial of Mohammed Saadoun, member of the Political Committee of the Kurdish Azadi Party in Syria. The trial will take place on Tuesday, 24 August 2010 in Qamishli, case number 4928/2010.
The Kurdish Organisation for the Defence of Human Rights and Public Freedoms in Syria – DAD condemns the continuation of the trial of Mohammed Saadoun, and call at the same time for this case to be dropped and for Mohammed Saadoun to be released immediately . They call for an end to arbitrary detention in general and political detention in particular, for the release of all political prisoners and prisoners of opinion and expression. They call for democratic freedoms to be respected, and for the abolition of the State of Emergency and martial law, for the rehabilitation of the judiciary, for respect for the independent authority and respect for international conventions and covenants on human rights.
