Rudaw - A plan is underway to use hard drugs among Kurdish youth and its intellectuals, says a security official from Iraqi Kurdistan. The head of drug prevention department in Sulaimaniyah security directory Brigadier Jalal Amin Bag revealed there is a plan to use drugs against the Kurdish generation. "The main alternative in achieving this plan is to spread drugs among university students and Kurdish intellectuals, but thankfully so far we have prevent it the plan to work", said the Kurdish brigadier, without saying who is behind it. According to some figures, Sulaimaniyah province because of the wide and long border with Iran, it has the most drug users in KRG. Famous Kurdish poet and writer Sherko Bekas thinks there is a "dangerous" plan underway to weaken Kurdistan region's people. "A war has started against our nation by using drugs," Bekas said. "So far I haven't seen anything to prove that it's been spread among our intellectuals, but I'm sure it will happen", he added. He also warned the government should do more to protect the youths. "The living standard should be better for the people; especially the youths and we also should tighten our border with western Kurdistan [Iran]," the experience poet said.
