Baghdad - Yesterday, the Iraqi Kurdish MP Mahmud Othman said Turkey should free the imprisoned PKK-leader Abdullah Ocalan.
On 15 February 1999, the leader was caught by Turkish troops in Kenya and imprisoned for life. In Turkey there were many clashes between the police and Kurdish demonstrators on Sunday. Othman said that it was ‘11 years ago today PKK leader Abdullah Ocalan was kidnapped from Kenya to Turkey in an evident conspiracy in which many, including the US, participated’. According to Othman, it’s time for America and the European Union to ‘urge Ankara to stop the violence and pursue a policy of peaceful dialogue to solve the Kurdish issue and free Ocalan.’
