On 8 October 2009, the Turkish Government sentenced a young 15 year old girl, Berivan Sayaca to 13 years imprisonment which was reduced to 8 years.
She was picked up randomly on a demonstration in Batman that she was not even attending and had been travelling to her family home.
The Turkish police tortured her and wrapped a 'Palestinian scarf' around her head and took photographs of her.
She has written a letter from prison which you can find on our facebook campaign group pages.
In the letter she writes:
“This place is such a difficult place, even if tried to explain how much I can’t explain how much. I want to be out playing with my friends. Every time the door opens here I hope for a letter or for them to take me out of here. I have never in my whole life stayed away from my family and that’s why I feel really scared here.
I miss my family so much.”
Berivan Sayaca aged 15 Diyarbakir Prison.
The Guardian published her story
The are over 2,600 Kurdish children in Turkish jails and Turkey is in breach of the UN Convention of the Rights of Children by treating them like adults.
