Rudaw - Gorran and Kurdistan Islamic union list are against the idea of a Kurd becoming an Iraqi president and they believe that Parliament speaker's post is the better option.
Opposition forces outside Kurdistan Democratic Party "KDP" and Patriotic Union of Kurdistan "PUK" circle feel that if the president doesn't have the power to veto any legislation, it won't have any use for the Kurds.
A member of KIU political bureau Dr. Muhammad Ahmed believes for Kurds it's better to get parliament speaker's post.
"Right now for Kurds Parliament speaker is more important than presidency post; because it's believed that president doesn't have the authority to veto any legislation, it's only symbolic post," he said.
The head of Kurdistan alliance list Dr. Fuad Ma'asum told Rudaw "the possibility of Jalal Talabani becoming the president again is very high and most of the Iraqi political forces are supporting Talabani to become the president again".
Meanwhile Gorran movement stated that they will not support any plans to get president's post and considers that the parliament speaker or Prime Minister's post would be good chose.
Shorish Hajji one of the Gorran's candidates for Iraqi Parliament exclusively told Rudaw "according to Iraqi Constitution, in the next parliament, the president will have very little authority. Gorran wants important post for the Kurds like Prime Minister or Parliament speaker, because they would have more power".
But Ma'asum doesn't agree with those notions that the president wouldn't have authority.
"Talabani in this post will help Iraq and the Kurds", he added.
