Seminar abstract

Dr Hirschler will talk on the Kurdish historiography in Turkey in the 1990s and especially the ways in which it constructs, defines and reworks Kurdish national identity.

Biography

Dr Konrad Hirschler is Senior Lecturer in the History of the Near and Middle East of SOAS, London University. His research interests: Historiography; history of reading; cultural and social history of the pre-modern Middle East; crusades in the Middle East. He is the author of the book “Medieval Arabic Historiography: Authors as Actors” and has published academic articles widely on pre-modern Arabic Historiography and two comprehensive articles on Kurdish Historiography in Turkey in the 1990s.
