HPG guerrillas have been in a passive position since 13th April 2009, following a decision by the Kurdish Freedom Movement. The KCK extended the ceasefire on numerous occasions in order to create an environment of discussion for a resolution, however operations have not ceased for over 7 months.
According to the report released by the HPG, the Turkish Army conducted 35 military operations aimed at annihilation. Due to the sensitive approach of guerrillas only four of these operations ended in conflict. 13 guerrillas died in the battles.
Two Kurdish patriots were also killed by Turkish and Iranian forces in the month of October, one in Wan and the other on the border of Iran. The Turkish Army conducted 7 aerial attacks in the Hakkari, Dersim and Bingol areas of North Kurdistan and 27 howitzer and mortars were used. Many settlements were damaged, tens of livestock perished and fires started in many places following these attacks. Also according to the report a civilian was wounded after stepping on a Turkish army mine. Desertions also continued in October as a soldier in the Turkish army escaped from his legion and joined guerrilla forces.
