Hawlati: Barzani takes unilateral decisions and political parties boycott the Supreme Council of Political Parties

London (KurdishMedia.com) 09 February 2010: The majority of political parties in Kurdistan accused the president of KRG Mr. Masoud Barzani of taking unilateral decisions on matters that relate to the future of Kurdistan, and they decide to boycott the Supreme Council of Political Parties (SCPP) of Kurdistan, according to a report published in Hawlati this week.

The Secretary General of Kurdistan’s Islamic Union (KIU) Mr. Salah al-Din Bahaaddin announced in a press conference that his party “will not participate in the SCPP meetings because unilateral decisions were taken, and the council should not be led by only one certain individual,” pointing to Massoud Barzani, the president of KRG and accusing him of taking “unilateral decisions in the council”

KurdishMedia.com contacted Mr. Berevan Amedi, the central committee member of the Kurdish Communist Party. He said that “the council exists, but its decisions are non-binding to any parties.”

On the other hand, the president of Kurdistan toilers Party Mr. Qadir Aziz told Hawlati, “We have outspokenly talked to the KRG president and stated that the order and authorities of the council be readdressed.”

Mr. Aziz added that “the council parties were not given any roles on issues relating to the fate of Kurds.” He stressed that his party will not take part in a council that takes decision without consensus.

And likewise, Mr. Abulsattar Majeed, the spokesman for the Islamic Group Party, which is a member of council, told Hawlati, “We believe it is crucial to have a political council for all parties, but it is important to specify the duties and roles of the member parties because no parties will be accept membership of they are not consulted in important decisions.”

For his part, Mr. Mohamed Tawfiq, the deputy leader of the Change Movement (Gorran) told Hawlati that they would study the issue and make a position on the matter.
